  • Guarana

Guarana (Paullinia cupana) is a plant native to the Amazon rainforest. It grows as a woody vine that can reach up to 10 m in length. It has characteristic red fruits that open partially when ripe, revealing up to three black seeds covered in a thick white coating on the lower half. And it is the seeds that contain valuable properties used in preparations such as dietary supplements 1 .

Guarana has the highest caffeine concentration (over 6% in the seed part) ever observed in nature 1 .

 

  • Caffeine absorption

Caffeine is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching its maximum concentration in the blood 30–120 minutes after consumption, depending on the individual conditions of the body and the presence of food in the stomach 3 . Caffeine is distributed through the blood to all body tissues 2 .
